304 Stainless Steel Findings
Our 304 Stainless Steel findings are made from high-grade 304 steel and finished using a vacuum plating process (Physical Vapor Deposition – PVD). This advanced technique is performed in a clean, high-vacuum chamber where metal vapour bonds to the steel surface at the atomic level, producing a smooth, durable, and environmentally friendly coating. Pieces described as silver, gold, rose gold, or black feature this high-quality PVD finish, offering excellent resistance to wear and tarnish. Findings described as steel in colour retain their natural raw finish without plating.
316L Surgical Steel Findings
Our 316L Surgical Steel findings are made from premium 316L grade steel, which contains additional alloys for enhanced corrosion resistance. These pieces are finished through a refined electroplating process, where they undergo multiple cleaning and plating stages to achieve bright, even, and long-lasting colour. Most items are barrel plated for consistency and efficiency, with select items rack plated for precision finishes. Products described as silver, gold & rose gold are electroplated with protective overcoats to maintain their colour and shine, while those listed as steel feature a natural, unplated finish.
Jewellery Care
Both 304 and 316L findings are designed for long-term wear and require minimal maintenance. However, their coatings respond slightly differently to everyday use. PVD-plated (304) pieces offer superior scratch and tarnish resistance, while electroplated (316L) finishes are more delicate and may gradually fade with frequent contact with water, perfumes, or lotions.
The reality of jewellery is that some level of tarnishing may eventually occur over time. Factors such as pollution, humidity, skincare products, cosmetics, perfume, and even an individual’s natural skin pH can influence how quickly this happens. While these effects are normal, tarnishing can be greatly minimised by avoiding contact with moisture and chemicals, limiting handling, and storing jewellery out of direct sunlight when not in use. Gently wiping your pieces with a soft cloth after wear will help preserve their finish and shine for years to come.
